ITINERARY:
Day 1: San Sebastian – Bilbao – Villasana de Mena
In the morning we will meet in San Sebastian, one of the most beautiful and elegant cities of Spain, where we will have lunch and walk around to see the historic town.
In the afternoon we will travel to Bilbao where the Transcantábrico Grand Luxe awaits us. Once there, the crew will help accommodate us in our suites before having dinner while on our way to Villasana de Mena.
Day 2: Villasana de Mena – Bilbao – Santander
During breakfast we will travel to Bilbao to visit this modern city and one of the most famous museums worldwide, The Guggenheim.
We will have lunch on board while we head to Santander to discover the Cantabrian capital at our own pace and, if you wish, to visit the casino after an outstanding dinner.
Day 3: Santander – Potes – Cabezón de la Sal
This morning our luxury train will drive us to Unquera where our private coach will cross the gorge of La Hermida to reach the shrine of St. Toribio de Liebana and, subsequently, Potes, the town of bridges and towers.
After lunch, we will enjoy free time before returning to the station where we will taste a superb dinner on board in the Cabezon de la Sal village.
Day 4: Cabezón de la Sal – Santillana Del Mar – Arriondas
We will start the day by visiting the Neocueva of Altamira, the greatest exponent of rock art of the Paleolithic age.
After the tour, we will enjoy Santillana del Mar, where we will travel through the past as we walk down the beautifully preserved medieval Old Town.
Once we have toured the city, we will travel by train to the seaside town of Ribadesellas where we will have free time to discover the Asturian lands before heading to dinner on board the train on our way to Arriondas where we will overnight.
Day 5: Arriondas – Oviedo – Candas
From Arriondas, we will ascend to the National Park Picos de Europa to visit the shrine of Covadonga. Back at the station, we will follow Lake Enol to visit Cangas de Onis, the first medieval capital of the Kingdom of Asturias.
Later, we travel to the historic city of Oviedo where we will enjoy a free afternoon before dinner on board while bound for Candás.
Day 6: Candás – Avilés – Gijón – Luarca
The day begins with a visit to Aviles, an ancient town that has retained its valuable historic area. Afterward, we will have lunch in Gijón, a city as open to the sea as it is full of cultural events.
After a traditional meal, we will head to Luarca, a beautiful fishing village embedded in an awesome place where we will enjoy the rest of the day.
Day 7: Luarca – Ribadeo – Viveiro
After a delicious breakfast, we will travel to Ribadeo, the first Galician city, where we will be transferred in our luxury coach to the beach of Las Catedrales, one of the most spectacular beaches in the world when the tide is low.
After a beach-filled morning, we will return to Ribadeo for lunch on board and continue our locomotive journey to the historic village of Vivero where we will relax for a quiet evening.
Day 8: Viveiro – Santiago de Compostela
While we enjoy our final breakfast on board, the Transcantábrico will take us to Ferrol where we will finish our journey by train. Our coach will transport us to Santiago de Compostela, the destination of pilgrims, to explore a millennial city full of art and jewelry where, after an exciting visit, we will complete this unique trip.
