Sevilla hosts The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC)

Since April 2nd, Seville has become the capital city of tourism. The marvelous Andalusian city hosts the 19th edition World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) meeting, and one of the main names arising in this edition is the former president is the United States of America, Barack Obama. This meeting is the most important event of this organization, which brings together to the biggest representatives of tourism and traveling industry from all over the world. But, what will they be talking about?

This summit is for everyone involved in the tourism sector to discuss the current situation of tourism worldwide. For this year meeting, the main topics to be treated are the latest global changes that have suffered the tourism sector and the commemoration of the 5th centenary of the circumnavigation of the Earth, which had Magallanes and Elcano as main protagonists. Furthermore, investors will be paying attention to the different panelists exhibiting during the two-day meeting.
Some of the main figures that will take the floor during these two days belong to powerful tourism groups as Christopher Nassetta, president of Hilton Group, Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization or Pedro Sánchez, President of Spain. Moreover there are other important companies which are also present in the WTTC Program, all connected to the field of travels with corporations ranging from hotels, airlines, cruises, payments, etc. Some of the most recognized names that have this summit highlighted on their calendars are Telefónica, Meliá Hotels, MasterCard, Virtuoso, Amadeus and Expedia.

For both Spain and Seville, this summit represents a very special opportunity to show the relevance of the Mediterranean country in terms of tourism and business. In this sense, personalities within tourism in Spain are attending the meeting to demonstrate the importance of Spain in world tourism. As a proof of power, As we can read in one of the OMT reports, Spain is the third country in terms of international visitors and the second one in terms of incomes coming directly from tourism according to the World Tourism Organization. So, the role of Spain is much more than crucial within this meeting.

As said before, the name in capital letters attending the WTTC summit is the one from the former President of the US, Barack Obama. His eight years in the charge showed his commitment with the sector and spread the relevant role that tourism industry has within world economy. In a country like Spain, where millions of visitors arrive every year, tourism has proved to be the most powerful engine for spanish economy and has helped other kind of industries to grow and be exported beyond our borders.
